William David Smith, a beloved member of the Rayle, Georgia community, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13th, 2024, at the Rainbow Retirement and Assistant Living Home in Arnoldsville, GA. Born on Wednesday, October 26th, 1949, in Greenwood, South Carolina, William lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and steadfast kindness.
David was a devoted family man, preceded in death by his loving spouse of 56 years, Betty Joyce Smith, and his son, Clayton Smith; his brothers, John Jernigan and Tracey Jernigan. He was the cherished son of the late Silas and Helen Jernigan.
A man of integrity and hard work, David dedicated 40 years of his life to his role as a Maintenance Technician with International Paper. His steadfast commitment and professionalism left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry. David found solace and joy in woodworking.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Rhonda S. Standard, of Rayle, GA, and his adored grandson, Aden Jaxon Standard, along with a close-knit family cherished through life’s many moments. His legacy continues through his five sisters, Jane Dorn (James), Kathy Young (Donnie), Joann Owens, Debbie Crawford (Tommy), Amy Lecroy, and two brothers, Yancy Jernigan (Vickie) and Paul Jernigan, all residing in Greenwood, SC, as well as several nieces and nephews who were dear to him.
In fond remembrance, a graveside memorial service will be held to honor David’s life and legacy. It will be officiated by Travis Newsome at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 19th, 2024, at the Carters Grove Church Cemetery. All who knew and loved David are invited to celebrate his remarkable life and pay their last respects.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the TJ and Friends Foundation, PO Box 6161, Elberton, GA 30635, in memory of David’s generous spirit and desire to help others.
The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at Rainbow Retirement and Assistant Living Home for their compassionate care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hopkins Funeral Home, who have provided diligent and respectful service in this time of mourning.
David will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His memory will be a guiding strength and source of comfort to all who had the privilege to know him. May he rest in peace.
