William (Bill) Mark Moore

Mr. William (Bill) Mark Moore, Sr., 86, of the Tignall Rd. in Washington, entered into rest on Friday, August 13, 2021, at his home. Mr. Moore was the son of the late Mark Allen Moore and Essie Sue West Moore.He was born in Taliaferro County, had lived in Wilkes County for most of his life, and was the husband of the late Thelma Jean Edwards Moore. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, saw active service from 1952-1956, and spent much of his Navy career onboard the U.S.S. Juneau and the U.S.S. Albany. After being discharged, he then spent 4 additional years in the Naval Reserve.He worked for the State of Georgia Jekyll Island Authority for ten years- from 1957-1967.He was a member of the Phillips Mill Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by nine siblings: Cecil A. Moore, Leonard Moore, Guy Yancey Moore, Tom Moore, Emory J. Moore, Hazel M. Jones, Carl W. Moore, John W. Moore and Mary Jean Grant. Mr. Moore is survived by one son, William (Billy) Mark Moore, Jr., Washington; three daughters, Peggy Moore Anderson, Debbie Moore Barnett, and Amanda Ruth Thomas (George), all of Washington; four grandchildren, Felicia Rogers Thornton (Chad), Stacey Rogers Carter (Casey), Bryan Carswell Barnett (Emily), and George Lindsey Thomas (Lauren); five great grandchildren, Steven Grier Carter, Emerson Riley Carter, Mason Allen Thornton, Maggie Alyssa Thornton, and Lilly Claire Barnett; one sister, Celeste Moore Vidrine, of Woodbine, GA; and one brother, J. Frank Moore (Helen), of Cartersville. Graveside services will be 4:00pm Sunday, August 15, 2021, at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Woods officiating.The U.S.Navy will perform funeral honors with the playing of taps, a flag folding ceremony and the flag presentation. Pallbearers will be Sam Moore, Shane Moore, Buddy Moore, Pete Moore, Barry Moore, and Keith Vidrine. Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips Mill Baptist Church or to VFW Post #5899 in Washington, GA. The family will be at the home of Peggy Moore Anderson, 738 Hallford Rd., Washington, GA.
