Ms. Wilda Myrtle Smith Boatwright, 99, of Lexington Rd. in Rayle, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Piedmont Hospital in Athens, Ga. Ms. Boatwright was born in Palmetto, Ga.She was the daughter of Greene and Fanny Yeargin Smith, was the widow of Mr. Joseph Alexander Boatwright, Sr., and they were married for 48 years. Ms. Boatwright was a homemaker and had lived in Rayle for most of her life.She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. Ms. Boatwright had traveled to all 50 states, Mexico and Canada but she often would say that out of everywhere she had visited, Rayle was her favorite place to be.She is preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Caroline Boatwright, one grandson, Joseph Alexander Boatwright, III and 16 brothers and sisters. Ms. Boatwright is survived by her son, Joseph Alexander Boatwright, Jr., of Rayle,; five grandchildren, Mildred Amy Boatwright, of Augusta, Donna Kay Guillen, of Rayle, Kimberly Avery (Rodney), of Oglethorpe, Keri Kimbrell (Wayne), of Rayle, Donald “Bo” Hicks, of Rayle; four great grandchildren, Casey Jones, of Rayle, Wendy Corrales- Castellanos, of Rayle, Alex Avery, of Oglethorpe Co. and Ashley Avery, of Oglethorpe Co.; and eleven great- great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. James Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Hopkins Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be, Wayne Kimbrell, Curtis Farmer, Kashten Hicks, Tomarcus Jones, Jr., Daryl Shedd and Jovan Jenkins.
