Mr. Wendell Rogers, 81, formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, in Athens. Mr. Rogers was born in Washington, GA, and lived here until 1971.He was the son of the late Clyde H. Rogers and Wynell Wolfe Rogers.He was the widower of Anne McCall Rogers, and was a retired tax appraiser.He served in the National Guard for twelve years, and was of the Baptist Faith. There will be a visitation Friday evening, January 8, 2016, at Hopkins Funeral Home from 5-8pm.Arrangements for the funeral service are incomplete at this time, but will be carried out by Hodges-Moore Funeral Home in Statesboro, GA, where Mr. Rogers will be buried. Mr. Rogers is survived by two sons, Wendell Rogers, Jr., of Athens, and Warren Rogers (Jerilyn), of Perry; one daughter, Vicki Bazemore (Mark), of Sylvania; one brother, Ernie Rogers (Frankie), of Washington; one sister-in-law, Margie W. Rogers, of Washington; seven grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Youth Programs at either the Middle Ground Baptist Church in Sylvania, GA, or to the Perry First Baptist Church, Perry, GA. Hopkins Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
