Walter Howard Smith, Sr.

Mr. Walter Howard Smith, Sr., age 84, of Augusta, Georgia, formerly of Washington, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta. He was the son of the late James Roy and Nellie Irene Mansfield Smith and married Sara Sellers.

After graduation, Mr. Smith served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He received a BS in Nursing, working in the Augusta area hospitals until his retirement. He was a member of Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Smith is survived by three sons, Walter Howard, Jr. and wife Michelle A. Smith of Bristol, Indiana; Lawrence Smith and Anthony Smith, both of Augusta; one brother, James Roy Smith, Jr.; and four grandchildren, Noah W. Smith, Joshua H. Smith, Natalie I. Smith and Savannah R. Smith.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Phillips Mill Baptist Church Cemetery, in Washington at 3:00p.m. with Rev. Edward Anderson officiating.
