Walter Calvin Herring

Mr. Walter Calvin ”Cal” Herring, Jr., 71, of Upper Mill Rd. in Crawfordville, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Kindred Hospice at Piedmont Regional Medical Center in Athens. Mr. Herring was born in Atlanta, and was the son of the late Walter C. Herring, Sr. and Janette Brown Herring.He grew up in East Point, Ga. and graduated from Russell High School in 1968.He had worked in the insurance industry for most of his life, and had his own All State Insurance Agency for 25 years in Decatur. He was a designated Chartered Life Underwriter and was a proud member of the NRA.He and his wife, Vicky, have lived in Taliaferro County for about nine years.He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Air Force.He was a lifelong and avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman, and was a member of the Raytown Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Lane Herring, of Crawfordville.; one daughter, Michele H. Paschal, and husband Greg, of Aiken, S.C.; three sons, Zachary Herring, and wife Amber, of Athens, Matthew Herring, of Athens, and Jacob Herring, of Atlanta; two sisters, Dianne Miller(Mike) and Cathy York (Randy), both of Bonaire; one stepmother, Gerry Herring; five grandchildren, Lindsey P. Duncan, Allison Paschal, Garrett Paschal, Sawyer Herring, and Wyatt Herring; and one great grandchild, Alli Duncan. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tony Mimbs officiating. A private committal service (family and pallbearers only) will immediately follow at the Raytown Baptist Church Cemetery in the Raytown Community in Taliaferro County. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel for one hour prior to the service (from 1:00pm until the time of the service at 2:00). Pallbearers will be Greg Paschal, Garrett Paschal, Randy York, Mike Miller, David York, and Michael Lane. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Veterans organization of your choice.
