W. E. Burdette, Jr. Washington:Mr. Walter Edward (Ed) Burdette, Jr., of Greensboro Rd., died Friday afternoon at Wills Memorial Hospital. Mr. Burdette was born in Washington and had lived here all of his life.He was a beef cattle farmer and business owner, having worked at and owned Burdette Mill & Gin Co. for over 50 years.He was the son of the late Walter E. Burdette, Sr. and Annie Laura Drinkard Burdette.He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, and had served as a County Commissioner. Mr. Burdette was a Mason and member of Lafayette Lodge #23, was a Shriner, and was a member of the Young Farmers.He was a member of the Wilkes County Cattleman’s Association, and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Burdette. Graveside services will be 4:00pm Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Allen Danner officiating. Mr. Burdette is survived by his wife, Eva Griffin Burdette, of the home; two sons, Ed Burdette III (Teresa),and Bill Burdette (Mary Elizabeth), both of Washington; one step-daughter, Kaye Bufford (Bill), of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, W. E. Burdette IV, Russell Burdette, Carole Bufford, and Joan Bufford; two great grandchildren, Walt Burdette, and Ruby Kate Burdette; and three sisters, Jean B. Castellaw (Clint), of Lenoir, NC, Laverne Edwards, and Angie Strother, both of Washington.
