Virginia Appelquest

Mrs. Virginia Clay Lea Appelquest of Washington, Georgia died August 28, 2008 at her home.Mrs. Appelquest was born in Magnolia, Mississippi.She was the daughter of Clark R. Lea and Allie Thomas Lea.She was the wife of the late Andren J. Appelquest, was a chemist and a graduate of Louisiana State University.She had also taught in the school system.She married and had two children before moving to Cuba in 1951, where she had her third child.She homeschooled her children until their return to the US in 1960.Teaching was a strong interest of hers and she spearheaded their educational endeavors.She was dedcicated to her family and was dearly loved by all.She is survived by three children, Andren J. Appelquest, Dr. Elizabeth Coe, and Emily Merrill; five grandchildren, Ian Coe, Genevieve Coe, Hanan Merrill, Carey Merrill and Nathan Merrill; four great grandchildren, William, Sophia, William and Lucinda Merrill; one sidter, Betty Banning, of Louisiana; brother-in-law, Ted Appelquest, Arizona; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
