Tony Hammond

Mr. Tony Marcus Hammond, 69, of Tignall, Georgia, died Monday October 8, 2012 at MCG.A native of Clarks Hill, South Carolina, he was the son of Mary Dorn Hammond and the late Billy Hammond.He was a member of the first graduating class from Strom Thurmond High School in 1962.Mr. Hammond served in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and was a life member of the NRA.He was retired from Augusta Newsprint and was a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 5:00pm in Mallorysville Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Berry and Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Neal Wilson, Ronnie Smith, Charlie Hogan, Bert Barber, Clyde Barnes, Mike Hood, David Reville and Mike Jackson will serve as pallbearers.Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Morgan, Randy Pallas and Bob White. Survivors include his wife, Marion Burton Hammond; two sons and daughters in law, Marc and Heather Hammond, Tignall and Bill and Terri Hammond, Crawford; mother, MaryHammond, Tignall; four grandchildren, Brock, Camden, Lola and Makayla Hammond; three brothers, Fred Hammond and his wife, Michelle, of Clarks Hill, S.C. Marvin Hammond and his wife, Jean of Nichols, S.C. and Ted Hammond, of Clarks Hill, S.C. ; one brother in law, Joe Burton and his wife, Debbie, of Tignall; three aunts and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mallorysville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 199 Bunch Rd., Tignall, GA 30668.
