Thomas Carlyon Wells

Mr. Thomas (Tom) Carlyon Wells, 81, of Washington, entered into rest on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Wells was born in Florence, S.C.  He had lived in Wilkes County all of his life, and was the son of Martha Carlyon Wells, who preceded him in death.  He graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School, and furthered his studies at Augusta College, earning a B.S. in Business.  He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Tom worked as a sales clerk at Reese Seed and Supply Co. in Washington for a number of years.  His easy going, laid back, and friendly style made him a natural at his job. He was a member of Gideons International and was a member of the Washington Lions Club for a number of years.  He was a long time member of the Washington First Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon and accomplished member of their choir for a number of years, while also serving in a number of other capacities at First Baptist. Tom also had sung at countless funerals in this area, and was always gracious and felt honored to do so.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melanie Craycraft Wells, of Washington; one son, Tommy Wells, and wife, Debbie, of Washington; one daughter, Angie Wells Herndon, and husband, Kerry, of Athens; four grandchildren, Beth Lannae Rainey (Russell), Amy Lannae Broadnax (John), Trey Lannae (Joy), and Drew Herndon (Pressley); and by seven great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert B. Wells and Emory Marshall Wells.

Funeral services will be 5:00 Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Newsome, Rev. Todd Ware, Rev. Dr. Sargent Nelson, and Rev. Preston Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, where Tom will receive U.S. Army Veteran Burial Honors.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday afternoon from 3:00pm until 4:45 pm at Hopkins Funeral Home.
