Mr. Thomas Austin Meadows, Jr.,77,of Athens, and formerly of Washington, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 10, 2017.He passed at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Meadows was born in Washington, GA.He was the son of T. Austin Meadows, Sr. and Susie Callaway Meadows. Austin earned a B.A. in Marketing from UGA, and owned and operated Meadows Grocery, Meadows Foodland, and Meadows IGA in Washington for a number of years.While in Washington, he served as an Elder at the Washington Chapel, was a member of the GA Retail Food Association, was a former President of the Washington Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Lions Club.After moving from Washington, he became very involved with the Camp Hope Christian Youth Camp, where he was a board member and was the Facility Manager.He was a member of the North Georgia Bible Chapel, and had served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Meadows is survived by his wife of 56 years, DeLaine Brown Meadows, of Athens; a daughter, Katie M. Steenson (Dan), and their children, James Austin Meadows Steenson and DeLaine Joyce Steenson; one son, T. Austin Meadows III (Kathy), and their children, Kristen Anderson (Jason) [Mason and Phillip Anderson], and MSgt. Nicholas (Nick) Palmer [Easton and Junah Palmer], and youngest daughter Rebecca L. Meadows, and her son Korey D. Walker, Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Ann Peeler and Laura M. Rocker(Jimmy). A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 3:00 at the Washington First Baptist Church.The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be David Adiss, David Thorpe, Tristan McCulloch, Lindsey McCulloch, Calum McCulloch, Lee O’Neill, Garrett O’Neill, Doug Simmons, Jim Rocker, Jake Reed, Terry Thornton, Chan Drake, Bob Hopkins, and the Camp Hope Board Members . Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Hope, 7011 Pony Lake Rd., Dahlonega, GA30533.
