Mr. Thomas McAvoy, Jr, 84, of Quaker Springs Rd., entered into rest Friday morning, January 8, 2021, at his home. Mr. McAvoy was born in Washington and had lived here all of his life. He was the son of the late Thomas McAvoy, Sr. and Gussie Hardy McAvoy, and was the widower of Mary Jane Long McAvoy.He had worked for a number of years for Pet Milk and Wood Specialty, Inc., but his love was cattle farming.He served in the U. S. Navy, was detached to the U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman for three years.He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 5899, and was a member of the Phillips Mill Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, T. Benji McAvoy (Sherri), and Brett McAvoy (Tracy), both of Washington; two daughters, Dawn McAvoy Moore (Sam), of Washington, and Mary Donna McAvoy (Clayton), of Bethlehem, Ga.;two sisters, Willie McAvoy Roberson (Gayle), of Washington, and Sarah Nell McAvoy Baynham, of Clarks Hill, S.C.; one aunt, Dell McAvoy James, of Washington; eleven grandchildren, Amanda Kathol (Brian), Amy Mullins (Brett), Jason McAvoy (Donna), Sarah Beth McAvoy, Emory McAvoy, Joshua Saggus (Brooke), Caleb Saggus (Kaitlin), Austin Hall, Alex Hall, Anthony Hall, and Aykin Hall; and four great grandchildren, Alexis Kathol, Benjamin Kathol, Hutson Saggus, and Mattox Saggus. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
