Talitha Wheatley Hopkins

Washington:Mrs. Martha Talitha Wheatley Hopkins, 93, of Metasville, died Tuesday morning at Wills Memorial Hospital. She was born August 26, 1919 in Wilkes County. She was the daughter of Leonard and Maude Thornton Wheatley, and attended Wilkes County Schools. She was married to the late Boyce Hopkins for 51 years.She was a volunteer secretary for Rehoboth Baptist Church for 58 years.She also served as Training Union Director, WMU Director, and Vacation Bible School Director at Rehoboth Baptist Church.She was retired from Royal Manufacturing Company and was chosen Mother of the Year for the Home Demonstration Clubs of Wilkes County.She was also a volunteer with the Wilkes County Cancer Association. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 4:00pm at the Rehoboth Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Wicker, Rev. Stephen Rayner, and Rev. Rob Cohen officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 2:30 till the time of the service. Active pallbearers will be Herman Wheatley, Jimmy Wheatley, Donald Wheatley, Len Raffini, Mike Wheatley, and Norman Wheatley.Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, and members of the Linda Wheatley Sunday School Class. Survivors include one brother, Stanley Wheatley, and wife Katherine Norman Wheatley, of Washington; one sister, Irene Wheatley Raffini, and husband Milton, of Anderson, SC; two sisters-in-law, Christine Sherrer Wheatley and Sara Hopkins Wheatley, of Washington; five nieces, 16 great nephews, 5 great nieces, and a number of great great nieces and nephews.She was the mother of one step-son, the late Norman Hopkins; two step-grandchildren, Norman Hopkins, Jr., of Buda, TX, and Lisa Hopkins Tripp, of San Jose, CA; She was preceded in death by brothers George Wheatley, Thomas Wheatley, and Manuel Wheatley, andhis wife Linda Callaway Wheatley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rehoboth Baptist Church, c/o Allen Ivey, 3028 Lovelace Rd., Lincolnton, GA30817. Hopkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
