Sybil Carithers Mcavoy

Mrs. Sybil Carithers McAvoy, 83, of Covington, entered into rest on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at her home. Mrs. McAvoy was born in Union Point, Ga., lived briefly in Wilkes County, but had lived in the Atlanta Metro area since 1966. She was the daughter of the late Gus and Mattie Underwood Carithers, and was married to Barry Dale McAvoy. She started out as a homemaker and mother of three sons, then became an administrative assistant for AT&T for a number of years. She was a member of the Newton Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dale McAvoy, of Covington; three sons, Barry McAvoy, and wife Dee, of Monroe, Dean McAvoy, and wife Judy, of Conyers, and Tracy McAvoy, also of Conyers; four grandchildren, Linda Lewis, Evan McAvoy (Katie), Melissa Conner (Jonathan), and Jacob McAvoy (Hannah); four great grandchildren, Olivia Lewis, Sophia Lewis, Walker McAvoy, and Anna Paige McAvoy; one sister, Audrey Shahin, Niagra Falls, N.Y.; and one brother, Kenneth Carithers, of McKinney, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hagen officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bethel United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 28, 2022, for one hour prior to the funeral service (1:00-1:55pm) Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
