Mr. Stratton Maurice Callaway, 86, of Washington, passed away Wednesday evening, March 21, 2018, at the Pruitt Healthcare Facility. Mr. Callaway was born in Taliaferro County and had lived there most of his life.He was the son of the late John Stratton Callaway and Mattie Lou Thaxton Callaway, and was the husband of Hazel Colbert Callaway.He was a former beef cattle farmer and was a member of the Carter’s Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Hazel C. Callaway, of Washington; two daughters, Sharon Michele Callaway Gurley (Greg), of Thomson, and Eugenia Caroline Callaway Danner (Rick), of Tignall; three grandchildren, Gene Gurley, Krystal Henderson, and Benjamin Danner; seven great grandchildren; one nephew, Travis Armour; and one neice, Karen Armour Ray.He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Gurley. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Woods officiating.Interment will then follow at the Carter’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Rayle. The family will receive friends at Hopkins Funeral Home from 2-3pm (one hour before the service) Active pallbearers will be Greg Gurley, Rick Danner, Benjamin Danner, Wayne Henderson, Alton Ray, and Travis Armour. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Combs, Mark Howell, Mickey Sisson, and Hassel Porterfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carter’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Cecile Poss, 5314 Lexington Rd., Rayle, GA30660.
