Shirley Ann Chafin, 82, of Rayle, entered into rest peacefully Tuesday morning at Echols Personal Care Home while surrounded by her children. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation and gratitude to Ruby Booth and Sylvia Barnes, their mother’s “angels” at Echols Personal Care Home-and to the rest of the staff.
Mrs. Chafin was born in Oglethorpe County, but had lived in Wilkes County for most of her life. She was the daughter of Luther Chafin and Gertrude Barrett Chafin, and was the widow of Mr. Troy Chafin. Mrs. Chafin was a member of the Rayle Lunch & Learn Club, and was a longtime member of the Rock United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Mack Chafin (Susan), of Washington, and Ronnie Chafin, of Rayle; three daughters, Sheila C. Arnold (Ken), of Lexington, Terri C. Diaz, of Rayle, and Tangie Chafin, also of Rayle; six grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Haley Hill, and great grandson, Baby Troy.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating. Interment will follow at the Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rayle. Visitation will be at Hopkins Funeral Home Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of the service.
Pallbearers will be Eric Archer, Blake Arnold, Evan Harper, Caleb Archer, Walker Young, Rocky Nation, and Ryan Wolfe.
