Sheldon Davis

Mr. Sheldon Augustus Davis, 76, of Winder, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 in St. Mary’s Hospital.A native of Washington, Georgia, he was the son of the late James Chester and Clara Wheatley Davis.He was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.Mr. Davis was a Produce Manager, served in the U. S. Army and retired from the National Guard.He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, The Gideon’s International, The Washington Jaycees for many years and was one of the original members of the Washington Rescue Unit. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 22nd at 3:00pm in Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. John Jenkins officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.Billy Chafin, Tommy Thaxton, Bill Carpenter, Billy Godwin, Lee Thaxton, Gene Moore and Johnny Hearst will serve as pallbearers and members of the Gideon’s International will serve as honorary pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Debra McGee Davis; three sons, Ken Davis (Barbara), of Washington, Charles Kirk Davis and Karl Jason Davis, both of Winder; one brother, Bobby Davis, of Crawford; one sister, Linda Weaver, of Milledgeville; two granddaughters, Nina Brooke D. Posey, of Thomson and Amber Nicole Davis, of Washington; two great grandchildren, Jacob Benjamin Posey and Alexander Posey. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International, 3923 Washington Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.
