Sara J. Pruitt, age 97, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 following a period of declining health.
Sara was born in Thomson to the late Phocian Stewart Johnson and Lena Hobbs Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ewing Samuel Dillard and Austin Agnew Pruitt. She was the last surviving sibling of nine children.
She was a devout Christian lady and was a member of Washington Prebyterian Church where she served in numerous capacities with the women’s circle. She spent several years working for the Farmers Home Administration before pouring her heart into becoming a full time homemaker. A steadfast and loving matriarch, Sara enjoyed helping Austin with his gardening, canning and freezing the fruits of their labor together, and nurturing her family. She was always looking for ways to care for others and to show the true love of Jesus to those who needed it the most.
In addition to gardening, her green thumb extended into her yard and flower beds.
Sara is survived by her two children, Ewing Dan Dillard (Debby) of Sharpsburg, and Daphne D. Albertson (Steve) of Washington; three grandchildren, Christina A. Carroll (Matthew), Kimberly W. Smith (Tim), and Brent Washington (Lisa); and four great grandchildren, Holden Smith, Jake Smith, Brooke Washington and, Madison Washington.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Washington Presbyterian Church with Pastor Glen Kohlhagen officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Sara loved flowers and she loved her church. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be directed to Washington Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 644, Washington, GA 30673.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Carolyn Harper and the staff of Harper’s Personal Care. They would also like to thank Bristol Hospice and nurse Amy Griggs for the exemplary care provided to Sara in her final days.
