Sara Lance Dees

Ms. Sara Lance Dees, 61, of Forest Lane in Washington, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Wills Memorial Hospital. Ms. Dees was born in Washington, GA, and had lived here most of her life.She was the daughter of the late Boyce P. Lance and Sara Bell Lance.She was a teacher, having taught Special Education in grades 7-12.She also taught for several years in the Toombs County School System.Sara earned a Masters in Education from UGA and a Masters in Psychology from Georgia Southern, and taught Psychology for Athens Tech, Georgia Southern and Truett-McConnell College.She was also a tour guide at Callaway Plantation on weekends for several years.She was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 11:00am at the Clifford Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Madden, Rev. Jacqueline Johnson, and Rev. John Lance officiating.Interment will follow at Clifford Grove in the Lance Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bob Simmons, Thomas Fanning, Dean Hubbard, and Tracy Hardigree, and W. C. Bentley.Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Long, James Sherrer, and Albert Huyck. Ms. Dees is survived by one daughter, Meredith Dees, and one son, Lance Wayne Dees, both of Washington; six brothers, Boyce P. Lance, Jr., of White, GA, George Christopher Lance, of Griffin, James Clarence Lance, of Ringold, Willard Harvey Lance, of Washington, Guy Almond Lance, of Lexington, and John Harris Lance, of Washington; and three grandchildren, Dehstiny Smith, Tiya Smith, and Alexandria Jenkins. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 at Hopkins Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at either Clifford Grove Baptist Church, or Washington First Baptist Church.
