Sammy Ray Jones

Washington:Mr. Sammy Ray Jones, of Andrews Dr., died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at University Hospital.Mr. Jones was born in Gibson, Ga., and had lived in Washington since 1973. He was the son of the late Edgar Jones and Ruby Palmer Jones, and was the husband of Brenda Chalker Jones.He was a retired Deputy for the Wilkes County Sheriff Department, and also was a school bus driver.He served in theU. S. Army, and was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Washington. He is survived by his wife, Brenda C. Jones, of Washington; one son, Craig Jones, of Athens; one brother, Bobby Jones (Daisy), of Gibson; and was preceded in death by a brother, William Edgar “Chief” Jones. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the New Life Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur Key officiating.Interment will be at 3:30 pm at the Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery in Gibson, GA. Active pallbearers will be Tommy McAvoy, Tommy Jackson, Curl Chalker, Jeffery Chalker, Leonard Knotts, and Fain.Honorary pallbearers will be the Wilkes County SherriffDepartment. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8pm at Hopkins Funeral Home.
