Sallie Mae "Ma" Arnold

Ms. Sallie Mae McElhannon “Ma” Arnold, 93, formerly of Lexington, entered into rest Saturday morning, April 23, 2022, at Comer Health and Rehabilitation. Ms. Arnold was born in Anderson, SC, but had lived most of her life Oglethorpe County.She was the daughter of Charlie and Pearl Whittington McElhannon, and was the widow of Mr. Edgar Lee “Son” Arnold.Ms. Arnold was a homemaker and professional child raiser, as told by her children, as she raised her own and a number of others.She attended Bethesda Methodist Church when she was able. She is survived by two daughters, Rosa Lee Ivie, of Comer, and Edna Noggle, and husband Dorsie, of Tignall; six sons, Leonard Arnold, and wife Gloria, of Lexington, Raymond “Ping Pong” Arnold, Lexington, James Arnold, Rayle, Eddie Arnold, Comer, George Arnold, Lexington, and Joe Mell Arnold, also of Lexington; one brother, James McElhannon, Comer; two sisters, Ruby Arnold, Washington, and Dorothy Callaway, of Rayle; and by a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.She was PRECEDED in death by two sons, Franklin Arnold and Harold Arnold; two daughters, Annie Mae Arnold and Martha Anne Sanders; by three sisters, Martha Williford, Faye Johnson, and Margie Nell Hubbard; and by five grandchildren, Bobby Gene Noggle, Jason Arnold, Eric Arnold, Jennifer Arnold, and Marie Ridgeway. Funeral servicves will be 2:00pm Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jim Olds officiating.Burial will follow at the Bethesda Methodist Cemetery in Oglethorpe County.Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1:00 until the time of the service at Hopkins Funeral Home. Her sons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners, or to Gideons International.
