Mrs. Ruby Mae McCune moved to her heavenly home on April 11, 2023 at the beautiful age of 98. Mrs. Ruby, or “Granny”, was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Ruby lived by herself on the farm of her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Heather Riley, in Danburg, GA. She was born Ruby Mae Jones in Athens, GA on October 19, 1924 to Essie M. and Joseph T. Jones. Ms. Ruby was proceeded in death by her beloved son, Larry Riley; daughter Paulette McDonald; and her two sisters, Alliefair Scoggins and Myrtice Hembree. They’re all enjoying fishing together again. Ms. Ruby is survived by her son Joseph Riley and his wife Heather, her son Jeffrey Riley of Athens, GA, and her daughter Angela Riley of San Marcos, CA. She is also survived by six grandchildren and many great and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Ms. Ruby was born and raised in the Athens, GA Whitehall community. She lived in Athens most of her life before moving to Danburg in 2011 after the death of her husband. She remained a faithful member of East Athens Baptist Church and attended Danburg Baptist Church. She loved the LORD, her family and friends, and fishing. Ms. Ruby had been ready to go home to the LORD for a while, and all who know and love her are grateful she is now at peace.
Ms. Ruby’s celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Danburg Baptist Church at 11am. The burial will be at 3pm at Evergreen Memorial in Athens, GA. Hopkins Funeral Home oversees arrangements.
