Mr. Ruben Thomas Fanning, 82, of S. Pecan St. in Washington, entered into rest early Wednesday morning at his residence with family at his side.
Mr. Fanning was born in Cobbtown, Ga. (Tattnall County), but had lived most of his life in Wilkes County. He was the son of the late Welcome France Fanning and Mattie Mae Hammock Fanning, and was the widower of the late Sandra Armour Fanning. Thomas had worked at Goldkist (later Southern States), the News Reporter, and most recently at Fareway Building Supply. Thomas was a service oriented person who met the public well, and was a valued employee and a good friend to many. He had been attending the Tignall Baptist Church for the last few years.
He is survived by one daughter, Angie F. Echols (Dennis), of Winterville; one son, Jeff Fanning (Concetta), of Evans; one sister, Jean F. Payne, of Athens; and six grandchildren, Bryan Fanning, Sarah F. Wyatt, Muriel Fanning, Matthew Echols, Camille Echols, and Cliff Echols; and he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Sanchez.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 2:00 at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris King officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00p.m. until 1:55p.m. at Hopkins Funeral Home(one hour prior to the service).
