Priscilla Johnson Maxwell, 79, of Washington, passed away on May 30, 2015 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA.Mrs. Maxwell was born August 29, 1935 in Crawfordville, GA to the late Emmette Lyle Johnson and Martha “Mattie” Sherrer Johnson.She is also preceded in death by her husband, Morrison Lee Maxwell, Jr., sisters Anita Darracott, Emogene Kellahan, Frances Johnson, and brothers Doyle Johnson and Wyman Kinsey Johnson. She was a graduate of Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville, GA.Over her lifetime, she was an active member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church; serving in the Women’s Missionary Union and as a Sunday school teacher.She was well known for her 50 years of journalism efforts in The News Reporter; authoring a weekly article on the Tyrone News; most often remembered for the following quotes… “And a good time was had by all” and “Don’t forget to smile at that person in the mirror!” Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 11:00am at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church with Rev. John King and Rev. Mark Woods officiating.The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00-11:00 Tuesday morning. Pallbearers will be Jene Moore, Ray Moore, David Green, Jerry McAvoy, Neill Echols, and Charles Waller.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Phillips Mill Adult 3 Sunday School Class, and members of the Phillips Mill WMU. She is survived by a daughter; Mary Jane Scarborough, a grandson, Tyler Scarborough, both of Washington and a son, Lee Maxwell of Atlanta. Hopkins Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
