Phillip Walter Garner, born April 30, 1957 in Austell, GA to Dr. James W. and Mrs. Jane Bellows Garner, passed away suddenly on November 1, 2023 after a brief illness. Phil graduated from Washington Wilkes High School in 1975. He then attended Georgia College of Milledgeville graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Health and Recreation. After a brief career as an Emergency Medical Technician, Phil went on to pursue his heartfelt desire for helping others by obtaining his license as a Registered Nurse.
Phil was a lover of music from a young age. He started expanding this love with his first set of drums that he received as a Christmas gift at age 10.As you might imagine, this special gift created many memories for his siblings, some fond and some not so fond. He learned to play guitar as well. Phil was a talented musician and loved playing music with his friends.
In his retirement, Phil took up the sport of Pickle Ball. He enjoyed every minute of it, and developed many enriching friendships with his Pickle Ball family. He was a loving and gracious friend to so many and always ready and willing to help if you needed anything.
Foremost in his life, he was a lover of his Saviour, Jesus Christ. An active member of New City Church at The Mill, he often shared his musical talent with his Church family.
Phil is predeceased by his father, Dr. James W. Garner and a Niece, Ms. Jessi Jenkins Pennington.
He is survived by his loving mother, Jane B. Garner currently of Athens; brothers, James W (Bubba) Garner, Athens and Stephen A (Lefty) Garner (Peggy), Statesboro; sister, Nancy J Garner, Statham; Niece, Kelsey G McLendon (Ryland), great nieces, Ashton and Avery Pennington and great nephew, Finley McLendon, all of Statesboro.
Visitation will be at Hopkins Funeral Home in Washington, GA on Sunday, November 5 from 1:00 until 2:30 followed by Graveside Services at 3:00 pm at Danburg Baptist Church Cemetary.
Additionally, there will be a Memorial Service held in Milledgeville at New City Church at The Mill on November 19 at 2:00 p.m.
