Mrs. Peggy Ann Rhodes Callaway, 84, of N. Alexander Ave., died Sunday evening at her home. Mrs. Callaway was born in Wilkes County and had lived here all of her life.She was the daughter of the late Samuel Hawes Rhodes and Annie Ruth Dye Rhodes, and was married to the late Owen Bernard Callaway. She was a homemaker and was employed by the GA Department of Natural Resources from 1985 until 1997, and retired as Site Manager of the Robert Toombs House Historic Site.She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Gary Owen Callaway; bythree brothers,Jack Rhodes, Sam Rhodes, Jr., and Marion “Bubba” Rhodes; and by two sisters, Nita Edwards Riley and Jenny Ruth Lindsey. She was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 11:00am Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Rayle with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating.The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at Hopkins Funeral Home. Nephews will serve as pallbearers:Ricky, Randy and Ronny Lindsey; Allen and Keith Rhodes: Charles Rhodes, Jr., Freddie Rhodes, Jr; Perry Norman; and Chad and Todd Drake. She is survived by two sons, Larry Callaway and wife Jan, of Rayle, and Scott Callaway and wife Penny, of Washington; two sisters, Olivia Norman, of Lincolnton, and Phyllis Drake, of Washington; three brothers, Freddie Rhodes and Charles Rhodes, both of Washington, and Robert Glenn Rhodes, of Tignall; four grandchildren, Parker Callaway, Abby Callaway McGarr, Lindsey Callaway Fawley, and Hunter Callaway; and three great grandchildren, Caleb Callaway, Aniston McGarr, and Darrell Fawley IV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
