Mr. Paul Edward Nichols, 60, of the Thomson Rd. in Washington, died Friday, June 22, 2018. Mr. Nichols was born in Athens, and had lived in Washington for most of his life.He was the son of Paul H. and Marilyn Miller Nichols.He was a heavy equipment operator in the land clearing business, and was a graduate of the Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School.Paul was retired from the Army National Guard and was called up for Active Duty during Operation Desert Storm.He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Washington. He is survived by his wife, Marion Hernandez Nichols, of Washington; one son, John Nichols (Anna), of Washington; one daughter, Barbara G. Eligio (Alejandro), of Washington; one sister, Delores N. Moore, (Bobby), of Crawfordville; nine grandchildren, James Nichols, Jaden Nichols, Alex Eligio, Cecilia Eligio, David Eligio (Vivian), Emily Eligio, Sophia Eligio, Stephanie Colunga, and Jazmin Walker; and by three great grandchildren, David Eligio, Evalyn Walker, and Alivia Walker.He was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Jean Nichols Dunaway. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00am Friday, June 29, 2018, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Washington with Father Stephen Lyness as the Celebrant.A funeral Vigil/visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8pm, June 28, 2018 at Hopkins Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Church of the Purification" restoration project . It is Hopkins Funeral Home’s honor to serve the Nichols Family.
