Patricia Cofer Mathews, age 76, entered into rest on Thursday, July 7, 2022 following a brief illness.
Tricia was born in Washington to the late Brantley Callaway Cofer and Rhetta Hardy Cofer. Never missing a chance to serve others, she was active in her community and in her church. Tricia served as a director with Rayle EMC and was active with Operation Round up. On election day, her smiling face could be found in Lexington where she served numerous years as a poll worker. Tricia was a dedicated member of Burts Chapel United Methodist Church where she served in countless capacities such as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the cemetery committee; and she was active in the food pantry ministry as well as the ham and egg supper. For many years, she was employed with Almar Manufacturing in Washington, and later became the activities director at Quiet Oaks Health Care Center in Crawford.
It was evident Tricia loved others and she never left a need unfulfilled. She was a devoted caregiver to her mother for more than ten years, and she never missed a chance to show love to her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Taylor and Jo McNair.
Tricia is survived by her husband of 46 years, Doug Mathews; brothers and sisters, Wendy Cofer (Dot) of Thomson, Agnes Cofer Church of Atlanta, Martha Cofer Stokely (Jimmy) of Oakridge, Tennessee, and Jim Cofer (Ellen) of Owens Crossing, Alabama; and a host of adoring nieces and nephews, and their families.
A celebration of Tricia’s life and service will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 10, 2022 at her beloved Burts Chapel. Her nephew. Dr. Christopher Church and her pastor, Reverend Anne Hansen will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Burts Chapel UMC cemetery fund, P.O. Box 494, Lexington, Georgia 30648.
Arrangements for Patricia Cofer Mathews is in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
