Mr. Owen Bernard Callaway, 84, of Rayle, died Sunday morning at Quiet Oaks Health Care in Crawford. Mr. Callaway was born in Lexington, GA, and lived in Wilkes County for most of his life.He was the son of the late William Bernardand Bessie Stratton Callaway.He was a dairy and beef farmer, and was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for a number of years.He was a member of the Wilkes County Cattlemen Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Owen Callaway. Graveside services will be 4:00pm Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Rayle with Rev. Roy Cates and Rev. Jim Newsome officiating. Mr. Callaway is survived by his wife, Doris Pitts Callaway, of Crawford; two sons, Larry Bernard (Jan) Callaway, and William Scott Callaway,both of Rayle; one sister, Betty Jo Callaway Denard, of Texas; four grandchildren, Parker Bernard Callaway, Abby C. McGarr, Lindsey C. Fawley, and William Hunter Callaway; and two great grandchildren, Caleb JamesCallaway, and Aniston Rayne McGarr. The family will receive friends Monday evening, November 5, 2012, from 6-8pm at Hopkins Funeral Home.
