Mrs. Emily Oleta Echols McAvoy, 74, of Greensboro Rd., died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at University Hospital in Augusta.Mrs. McAvoy was a native of Wilkes County and had lived here all of her life.She was the daughter of the late Martin Alexander Echols and Louise Poss Echols.She was the wife of Marvin McAvoy, and they had been married for 56 years.She was a retired bookkeeper for Lindsey Chevrolet in Washington, and had been a homemaker for just as long.She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Washington, The D.A.R., Iris Garden Club, The Women’s Club, and the Wills Memorial Hospital Auxillary. She is survived by her husband, Marvin McAvoy, of the home; one daughter, Susan (Michael)Swantner, of Corpus Christi, TX; three sons, Bruce McAvoy,Roger (Jennifer) McAvoy,and David McAvoy, all of Washington; two brothers, Martin P. Echols, Washington, and Allen L.(Jo Ellen) Echols, Longwood, FL; eight grandchildren,Matthew J. Swantner, San Antonio, TX, Emily S. Cunningham, San Francisco, CA, Daniel J. Swantner, Austin, TX, Ginger Di Mascio, Eatonton, Laura Ellen McAvoy, Atlanta, Abby McAvoy, Savannah, Morgan McAvoy, Washington and Charlie McAvoy, Washington; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at 4:00 in the Clark Station Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Madden officiating.David Reville, Burt Goolsby, Frank Bentley, Wade Waller, Barry Goolsby and Jon Bennett will serve as pallbearers.Claude McKellar, Sidney Walker, Johnny Newberry, Larry Gillespie, Marty Smith, and members of Tignall High School Class of ’55, Sam Bradley, Norris Ware, Jimmy Evans, Carolyn Guest Cartledge, Betty Slaton, Tankersley Walton, J.N. Hawes and Hugh Keener will serve as honorary pallbearers.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 603, Washington, GA 30673, to the Clark Station Baptist Church, c/o Casey Jackson, 2924 Newtown Rd., Tignall, GA. 30668, or to the charity of your choice.
