Morrison Maxwell Morrison Lee Maxwell, Jr., 80, of the Tyrone Community in Washington, GA, passed away on July 6, 2011 at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, GA.Mr. Maxwell was born December 6, 1930, in Athens, GA to the late Morrison Lee Maxwell, Sr. and Mary Ann Poss Maxwell.He is also preceded in death by his youngest brother, Larry Maxwell, of Ware Shoals, S.C. Following high school, Mr. Maxwell attended Berry College and worked as a state Milk Tester before entering the U.S. Navy in 1951; serving for four years.Upon his return, he started his own watch repair shop before serving 28 years as a postal worker for the city of Washington until he retired in 1985.He then worked as an Office Manager at Gunter Well Drilling for fifteen years.Over his lifetime, he has also been an active member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church; serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Priscilla Johnson Maxwell, a daughter, Mary Jane Scarborough, a grandson, Tyler Scarborough both of Washington, a son, Lee Nash Maxwell of Atlanta, a brother, Corrie Maxwell and his wife, Myra Edwards Maxwell of Washington and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Evans Maxwell of Ware Shoals, S.C. Funeral arrangements have been made for Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11:00am at Phillips Mill Baptist Church, located at 5479 Greensboro Rd. Washington.Visitation will be held in the church; beginning at 10am on the same day.Services will be officiated by former pastor, Reverend John King of Monroe, GA, Interim Pastor Jamie Callaway of Bowman, GA; with music provided by Mrs. Henry (Faye) McAvoy.Mickey Sisson, Jene Ray Moore, Jr., Neil Echols, Tyler Scarborough, Jerry McAvoy and David Greene will serve as pallbearers.Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Cofer, Henry McAvoy, Kerry McAvoy, Sr., Dean McDonald and Charles Waller.Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phillips Mill Baptist Church.
