Michael “Mike” Patrick Eskew Sr., 82, of Washington Georgia passed away on Saturday, June 24,2023 at his home, after a lengthy illness.
Mike was born in Augusta Georgia to Mr. and Mrs. William P. Eskew. Mike and his sisters grew up in Louisville Georgia. Mike married Anne “Sniggy” Simpson on March 5, 1962. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia class of 62. Mike was commissioned into the United States Army in September of 1962. While serving Mike was awarded the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal. Mike also earned the US Army Airborne Jump Wings and, also the German Airborne Jump Wings. After retiring from the military in 1991 from Fort Riley Kansas, Mike & Sniggy returned to Washington Georgia, where Mike worked for the Chamber of Commerce, was the City Clerk, and worked as the City Manager. Mike also enjoyed his volunteer work with the Kiwanis Club and his churches. In 2021 Mike became the interim City Manager for the city of Guyton GA, before retiring in April of 2022 to spend more time with his wife Sniggy, and their five dogs.
Throughout Mike’s life he enjoyed family, friends, watching and playing sports. travelling, skiing, and spending time with those he loved. He also enjoyed working with scouts, teaching American Red Cross health and safety courses, Disaster courses through the American Red Cross. He excelled in working with adapted aquatics and special needs children.
Mike is survived by his wife of 61 years Sniggy S. Eskew of Washington Georgia, daughters Deedie (Don) Sarringer of Lansdale PA, Mimi (Moe) Moeller of Milford KS, and Allie Lousch of Manhattan KS. Mike and Sniggy have 10 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. Mike is also survived by his two sisters Mary Ann Eskew of Douglasville GA, and Nancy E. Kennedy also of Douglasville GA., his brother-in-law Mr. Addison (Buddy) W. Simpson III of Augusta, GA and two nieces Kay (Lamar) Gilstrap of Douglasville GA, and Ginger (Joe) Jones of La Grange GA., His loved ones LeAnne and Lyndon Amis of Washington GA, and Annie Gresham of Washington GA., and his five amazing rescue four pawed babies.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents William P. Eskew July 14, 1957 of Louisville GA and Nell E. Mitchell January 7, 1985 of Douglasville GA. his step-father Eugene W. Mitchell December 25, 1977 of Douglasville GA, his in-laws Dr. Addison W. Simpson Jr. May, 11, 1967 of Washington GA, and Mrs. Anne C. Simpson June 10, 2010 of Washington GA, his beloved son Corp. Michael P. Eskew Jr. September 5, 1986 of Fort Meade, MD
The private Celebration of Life for Mike Eskew will be held in late Fall or early Winter in Washington Georgia. Mike’s ashes will be buried in the Memorial Garden at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Washington GA.
