Melvin Ellis Edwards, 74, of Crawfordville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at his residence. Melvin was born on November 27, 1950 in Washington, Georgia, the son of the late Ralph Owen Edwards and Edith Evans Edwards.

A proud alumnus of Washington Wilkes High School, class of 1968, Melvin furthered his education at Augusta State University, where he studied Business Management, graduating with the class of 1977. His commitment to service was evident in his time with the United States Army, where he served his country with honor.

Melvin was a man of many talents and passions. An excellent salesman, he worked for CSRA Office Supplies (M&M) in Washington, Georgia, and later pursued a successful career in real estate with Century 21 and Remax in Augusta, Georgia. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner of Copyman Printing in Crawfordville, Georgia.

A gifted writer, Melvin authored three books and contributed numerous articles to the Bowhunter of Georgia magazine. His love for the outdoors was unparalleled, and he was an excellent marksman and bowhunter. Melvin's passion for archery extended to his community, where he volunteered to host several archery programs for youngsters at state parks across North Georgia.

Melvin's adventurous spirit took him on many hunting trips to Alaska, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, and North Georgia. His presence will be deeply missed in the Sandy Cross community of Crawfordville, Georgia.

Melvin is survived by his son, Jeremy Keith Edwards of Decatur, Alabama; sister-in-law, Margaret Wyatt Edwards of Lexington, South Carolina; his beloved pet dog, Maggie; nieces, Melanie Boatwright and Susan Yearwood (Mark) of Crawfordville, Georgia; nephews, Clinton Edwards of Lexington, South Carolina, and Edward Stratton (Brittany) of Crawfordville, Georgia; great-nieces, Carmen Echols (Brandon), Rachel DeVerger (Tom), Rebecca Hannis, and Abigail Stratton; great-nephews, Ethan Yearwood (Rina), Jakob Stratton, Ryan Stratton and Aaron Yearwood; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Adalynn Hannis and William Echols. He is also survived by numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Gary Emerson Edwards and Miriam Claire Stratton.

A memorial service to celebrate Melvin's life will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 6 PM at Sandy Cross Baptist Church in Crawfordville, GA. The service will be officiated by Rev. Lem Clarke and Rev. Mark Yearwood, who will honor Melvin's memory and the profound impact he had on those around him.

Following the service, the family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a covered-dish meal in the church fellowship hall. This gathering will be an opportunity to share stories, memories, and the love that Melvin so freely gave to all who knew him.

Melvin's legacy of kindness, adventure, and community service will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a world made better by his presence and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the community he loved so much.
