Mrs. Maxine ‘Mickey’ Christina Schlund Gresham, 91, of Evans, formerly of Washington, died May 21, 2013 in Brandon Wilde Personal Care Home.A native of Wynot, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Clara Schmidt Schlund and the widower of Monsey Gresham.Mrs. Gresham wasretired from Wills Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse.She was a member of First United Methodist Church and had served her country in the United States Army.During the war she worked as a nurse in the field hospital of Normandy Beach in Paris treating the casualties of Battle of the Bulge and then went to Berlin with occupying forces as the war ended.That is where she met and married Monsey .She played classical piano, was an avid reader and skilled seamstress.She was also witty, intelligent and plain-spoken. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 25th at 4:00pm in Resthaven Cemetery with Rev. Thomas G. Hall officiating. Survivors include three daughters, Dr. Mary G. Gresham (Jonathan Goodson), of Atlanta, Dr. Hattie D. Gresham (Dr.Frank O’Sullivan), of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Christine G. (Allen) Osborne, Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Christi Lewis, Lisa Garrett, Matthew Rosenzweig and John Osborne; two bonus grandchildren, Amber Nawolski and Allison Mawhinney; three great grandchildren, William Lewis, Lucas Garrett and Claire Garrett; and one bonus great grandchild, Stella Mawhinney. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Pharr-Ficklen Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church.
