Mary Thornton

Mrs. Mary Holcomb Callaway Thornton, 85, of Washington, died April 4, 2012 in the Medical College of Georgia.A native of Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late, John West and Susie Drinkard Callaway.She was a homemaker and a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00pm in Rehoboth Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Wicker and Rev. Steve Rayner officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Gene Thornton, Jr., Mike McCombs, Jeremy Burgess, Chris Burgess, Chad Thornton, Derrick Thornton and Manuel Hunter will serve as pallbearers. Survivors include her husband of sixty five years, Manuel Clark Thornton; two sons, Terry Thornton and Ricky (Faye) Thornton, both of Washington; one daughter, Susan (Melvin) Burgess, of Lincolnton; one sister, Ruth Dunaway, Winder and one sister in law, Harriet Callaway, of Washington; five grandchildren, Chad Thornton, Jeremy Burgess, Shannon Thornton, Chris Burgess, and Derrick Thornton; and two great grandchildren, Mason and Maggie Thornton. The family will receive friends this evening (Friday) from 7-9pm at the funeral home.
