Mrs. Mary Pearl Lunceford Gunter, 88, of Washington, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at her home.A native of Tignall, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Earl and Ida Jane Echols Lunceford and was the widow of Walter Gunter.Mrs. Gunter retired from the Wilkes County ASCS office after 35 ½ years.Early in life she was a member of Clark Station Baptist Church and after moving to town, became a member of First Baptist of Washington.She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and taught Sunday School in the primary department of both churches. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8th at 3:00pm in Hopkins Funeral Home with Rev. Albert Huyck and Rev. Kevin Madden officiating.Interment will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.Dan Coxwell, R.W. Lunceford, Dr. Carlton Hearn, Larry Gillespie, Kyle Bearse and David Harper will serve as pallbearers.Serving as honorary pallbearers are Kevin Thornton, Boyce Fortson, Joe Collins, Purvis Walton, Claude Hyche and Calvin Gunter, Jr. Survivors include one daughter and son in law, Susan G. and Mack Chafin, of Washington; one granddaughter and her husband, Wendi and Keith Wolfe, of Washington; two great grandchildren, Evan Kain Harper and Ryan Keith Wolfe; and longtime caregiver, Mary Hyche.
