Mary Ann Garrard passed away September 16, 2024. She was born at home on February 16, 1938 to the late Joe and Ruth Newsome Garrard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Sanford and Randolph and her sister Laura Sue. Mary Ann was a proud product of Wilkes County schools (1956), Young Harris College (1958), and the University of Georgia (1960). Go Dawgs! She spent 25 years in New England where she raised her children. As much as she loved the ocean and rocky coastline of Rhode Island, she was always a Georgia girl at heart and was happy to return to her home in Wilkes County. Mary Ann seamlessly picked up the threads of her life teaching, playing bridge and Scrabble, caring for family and friends, and spoiling her nieces and nephews by baking their favorites of all of her specialty goods. In fact, she spoiled the whole family during the 30-plus years she was back in her native Georgia home. So many words can describe Mary Ann: kind, compassionate loving, thoughtful, generous, funny, civic-minded, and loyal. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled; she was one of a kind, and everyone she touched was enriched by her nurturing.
Mary Ann is survived by her son David Eubank, her daughter Ann Eubank (Melissa Taylor), her brother David Garrard (Beth), and her sister Martha Jo Garrard Collins (Mark), sister-in-law Shirley Garrard and many beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers in service are: Robert Garrard, Ted Miller, Joe Miller, Hammond Garrard, William Garrard and John Collins.
Funeral services will be 11:00 Saturday morning, September 21, 2024, at the Smyrna Community Church with Rev. Kathy Lamon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday morning at the church for one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00).
