Martin Poss Echols, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on April 16, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Martin was born on July 29, 1943, to Martin Alexander Echols and Louise Ola Poss Echols in Rayle, Georgia, and was the husband of the late Betty Stevens Echols. Martin was an exceptional man who had a passion for life. He was respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Martin had a deep commitment to his family and friends, and believed in the value of hard work. Martin was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Martin's family was the center of his world. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart and was always there to support them in all their endeavors. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Martin's legacy will live on through the memories he created with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love for those around him.
He is survived by his daughter, Louise E. Mell and son-in law Paul Mell, of Kennesaw; son, Marty Echols and daughter-in-law Kellie, of Washington; nine grandchildren Clint Echols, Taylor E. Armour, Savannah Echols, Georgia Echols, Tripp Harper, Layla Mell, Jake Mell, Brandon Echols, and Colby Echols; five great-grandchildren Canden Echols, Baylor Echols, Sutton Echols, River Armour and Will Echols; and one brother, Bud Echols, and wife Jo Ellen, of Dunwoody.
Their love and appreciation for Martin will never fade, and he will always hold a special place in their hearts.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry McAvoy officiating. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 until the the time of the service at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roger McAvoy, David McAvoy, Richard Butler, Hal Howard, Dusty Turner and Larry Callaway.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, or to the Dementia-Alzheimers Foundation.
