Martha Irene Rousey

Ms. Martha Irene Burrell Rousey, 89, of Washington, passed away Wednesday morning, October 16, 2019, at Harper’s Personal Care Home. Ms. Rousey was born in Cornelia, Georgia, and had lived in Wilkes County since 1947. She was the daughter of the late Glenn and Efffie Trotter Burrell.She and husband, Julius, met in Cornelia, were married, and moved to Tignall all in the same year. They were married for 66 years before Julius passed in 2014, then worked at ALMAR for a few years before starting her family. She later worked at the Georgia Natural Gas Company in Washington during the 1970s, and was a loving wife and mother.She was a member of the Washington First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Ms. Rousey is survived by her two sons, Tom Rousey, and wife Jane, of Liberty, N.C., and Bill Rousey, and fiance Beth Levy, of Washington; two sisters, Eloise B. Smith, of Gulf Breeze, Fl., and Melinda B. Lassiter, and husband Nolan, of Cornelia; one brother, Roscoe Burrell, of Cornelia; and four grandchildren, Erin Rousey, Clay Rousey, Cole Rousey, and Cliff Rousey. Funeral services will be 11:00 Saturday morning, October 19, 2019, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Outlaw officiating.Burial will follow in the Tignall Independence UMC Cemetery.Visitation will be 7-9pm Friday evening at Hopkins Funeral Home.
