Marjorie Stowers Morrow

Marjorie Stowers Morrow Memorial services for Marjorie Morrow will be held at 2:00 on Friday, August 18, at First United Methodist Church in Washington, with Rev. Thomas Hall and Mrs. Morrow’s cousin Rev. Phil Gaines officiating. Mrs. Morrow died August 9 in Wills Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Dr. John A. Morrow, Jr., and the daughter of Adlai Stowers and Clara Adams Stowers of Elbert County, where she was born in 1922. After graduating from Georgia State College for Women in 1943, Mrs. Morrow worked as a librarian in Pompano Beach, Florida. She met John Morrow when she was a student in Emory University’s library school and he was a student in Emory’s dental school. They married in 1946 and, after graduating from Emory, settled in Washington in 1950. Mrs. Morrow became the director of the Mary Willis Library in 1964 and oversaw the library’s modernization and expansion. She was also the first head librarian of the Bartram Trail Regional Library System. She retired in 1988. Dr. Morrow passed away in 2010. Mrs. Morrow will be greatly missed by her brother Joel Stowers and his wife Anne of Athens; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Morrow Cummings (Doyle) of Eupora, Mississippi; and her children Marcia McCann (Clif) of Chevy Chase, Maryland; Nancy Ralston (Kirby) of Omaha, Nebraska; Claire Stephens (Paul) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and John Morrow (Lynn) of Columbia, South Carolina. Survivors also include her much-loved grandchildren Greg and Jeanna McCann, and Reid and Charlie Stephens (Lindsay), and great-grandchild James Stephens. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and by many dear friends in Washington. The family would like to thank Betty Walton and Davis Mahoney for their devoted care for Mrs. Morrow in recent years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O.
