Marion Burton Hammond

Mrs. Marion Burton Hammond, 66, of Tignall, passed away July 28, 2014 in Georgia Regents Medical Center.A native of Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late, Julian “Pop” Burton and Ruth Johnson Burton.After high school graduation, she studied at Bolen’s Business School.Marion was a retired case worker for the Wilkes County Department of Family and Children Services and after retirement, she worked as a bailiff for the Wilkes County Courts, she also worked the voter polls. She was a member of the Wilkes County Pilot Club and a faithful member of Mallorysville Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for many years.In October of 2012 Tony Marcus Hammond, her husband of forty five years, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 5:00pm in Mallorysville Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Berry officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Ronnie Smith, Bert Barber, Neal Wilson, Monty Browning, Will Duncan and Mike Jackson will serve as Pallbearers. Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Marc and Heather Hammond, of Tignall and Bill and Terri Hammond, of Crawford; four grandchildren, Brock, Camden, Lola and Makayla; brother and sister in law, Joe and Debbie Burton, of Tignall; mother in law, Mary D. Hammond, of Tignall; uncle and aunt, Gene and Phyllis Burton, of Elberton; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mallorysville Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
