Margaret Young Gunter, 81, of Washington, Georgia, passed away on December 26 at Savannah Court of Lake Oconee. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, December 28 at Hopkins Funeral Home in Washington, GA. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Aonia, GA. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.Arrangements are by Hopkins Funeral Home. Margaret was born in Wilkes County to Thomas Combs Young, Sr. and Mamie Flynt Young on August 22, 1937.She was married to Perry Gunter for over 50 years and made her home in Washington most of her life.She worked at the Royal Manufacturing Company and was the co-founder and secretary for Gunter Well Drilling for many years.Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.An active member of the First Baptist Church in Washington, she found great joy in working with children and senior groups of FBC. Passionate about community service, she held many hats in Lions Club International. Margaret was often a behind-the-scenes workhorse in everything she was passionate about: her family, friends, animals, plants, and cooking. She devoted her time to helping others. Her generosity and kind loving spirit impacted many. Her sense of humor and no nonsense ability to “tell it like it is,” made her a respected favorite among the friends of her children. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Charles (Lucy) Young, Frances (W.H) Callaway, Jean (Shorty) Bufford, Leslie (Helen) Young, Johnny (Elizabeth) Young, Tommy Young, and Mary Ann Young. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Cecelia G. Stewart; sons, Efrem (Fay) Gunter and Shane (Tammy) Gunter; beloved family member, Alejandro (Barbara) Eligo; sister, Betty (Marty) Drinkard; sisters-in-law, Ann Butler, Carmen Young, and Peggy Gunter Crook; 6 grandchildren, Marisa (Jamie) Morgan, Keith Lovvorn, Kenneth Gunter, Kyle Gunter, Ty Gunter, and Tripp Gunter, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Clary Young, Crayton Young, Al Young, Mark Bellows, Christopher Bellows, Dean Hubbard, and Buddy Bufford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter, 358 Brown Dr., Washington, GA 30673.
