Mr. Marcus Preston Browning, 70, of Winterville, Georgia entered into rest on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Piedmont Hospital, Athens, Georgia. Marcus was born in Norman, Oklahoma on December 9, 1952 to the late John William Browning, Jr., and the late Loretta Finney Browning. He was beloved husband to Janice Armour Browning. Marcus graduated UGA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He served his country as a Navy Submarine Sonar Technician during the Vietnam era. He was a Copier Technician and had worked for Minolta. Marcus was an artist who enjoyed drawing and mainly oil paintings which he sometimes sold. He loved playing Bluegrass Gospel music. His main instrument was the banjo, but his talent allowed him to play almost any stringed instrument. He played for several Bluegrass Gospel groups, including the Southern Travelers at the Ernest Tubb Theatre in Nashville. He also loved to play for nursing homes and churches. With his sense of humor, he was dearly beloved by his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and the feeling was mutual. Through his humor, along with his impersonations of Elvis, kids and everyone around him were constantly entertained and will miss him tremendously. In addition to his precious wife, Janice, Marcus is survived by three brothers: John William Browning, III and wife Marcia of Ocoee, FL, Michael D. Browning and wife Pam of Merritt Island, FL and Mack Terrell Browning and wife Melanie of Deerfield Beach, FL; and one sister Lisa R. Browning of Alexandria, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at County Line Baptist Church, 3210 Walker Rd., Rayle, GA on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., with family visitation from 1:00-2:00. Interment will immediately follow in the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. John Parker, with music by Brenda Vandiver. Pallbearers will be Mike Browning, Sidney Miltz, Douglas Armour, Eric Armour, Luke Armour and Grant Armour. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
