Mrs. Louise Hopkins Mulkey Phelps, 92, of Old Lexington Rd. in Athens, and formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at home. Mrs. Phelps was a native of Wilkes County, was a homemaker, and was the daughter of John David Hopkins and Mary Jane Brown Hopkins.She was a member of the Wesleyan Chapel Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 3:00 at the Clifford Grove Baptist Church in Washington.Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Edwards, Keith Edwards, Jeff Cranford, Mark Adams, Matt Stephens, and Tom Mulkey. Mrs. Phelps is survived by one son, Reid (Tina) Mulkey; two daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Edwards, and Kathy (Jimmy) Cranford; three sisters, Lucille Bailey, Mary Bell Adkinson, and Elsie Rogers; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.She was preceded in death by two husbands, Thomas F. Mulkey and Bennie Phelps, by one son, Jimmy Mulkey, and by one great grandson, “Jac” Cranford. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 at Hopkins Funeral Home.
