Louise D. Burt Louise Dunaway Burt, 95, died Friday night, October 9, at home. Louise was a life long resident of Wilkes County and was known as a beautiful, kind, and loving person. Louise was a member of Mt Zion United Methodist Church for 90 years and was the oldest living member of the church. Over her 90 years of service, she held every Committee and Trustee position of Little River Charge, including Delegate to the Annual Conference for many years. She held every position available at Mt. Zion including teaching the Adult Sunday School Class for over 40 years. Louise was also active in Eastern Star while available in Washington, serving as Worthy Matron and other regional and state positions. She also held various position in the DAR and was active in the Iris Garden Club. She loved red roses and would often cut roses from her garden and share them with residents of the nursing home. Louise will be remembered most for her co-founding a local Twelve Step group, along with Katherine Harper Schechter. She sponsored and helped dozens of people many years younger than she was. Some of them called her “Mama”. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Addison M. Burt, her daughter, Lavenia Burt Henderson, her parents, Martha Turpin and Raymond Dunaway, her sisters, Mamie D. Durham, Effie D. Teasley, and Grace Dunaway, and a brother, Bill Dunaway. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm on Monday, October 12, 2015 at The Mount Zion United Methodist Church, with Rev. Richard Broom officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Hopkins Funeral Home from 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm prior to the service. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Burt of St. Simons Island, grandsons Addison Burt Goolsby (Lynn) and Barry Wayne Goolsby (Cindy), great-grandchildren Lindsey Goolsby Rogers (Brantley) all of Washington, Addison Burt Goolsby II (Mallory) of Thomson, Anna Goolsby Leestma (Caleb) of Warner Robins, and Margaret Louise Goolsby of Washington, great-great grandchildren, Brantley Burt Rogers, Brogan Scott Rogers, and Addison Burt Goolsby III. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Brian J. Henderson, step-grandchildren Kym H. Wiggins (Jon), Karyn H. Church (Michael), all of N, Wilkesboro, NC, and Katie H. Beck of Atlanta, step-great-grandchildren Kierstyn Collins, Zack Church, Madelyn Church, William Beck, Henry Beck, and Zeke Wiggins. She is also survived by sisters Bonnie D. Brown (Troy), and Flora Ann D. McGill (Sam) and brothers Tom Dunaway (Regina) and Alex Dunaway along with dozens of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. Pallbearers will be Tim Brown, Dan Durham, Ty McGill, Wade Dunaway, Justin Cosby, Jesse Moore, Eric Archer, and Bill Steed. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Twelve Step group Louise helped co-found and the nurses who took such good care of her.
