Mrs. Lois “Nanny” McAvoy Hardy, 89, of Washington, died February 9, 2010 in Wills Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Wilkes County, the daughter of the late Isaiah Tucker and Maggie Rice McAvoy.Mrs. Hardy was a member of Bethel UMC where she was an inactive member of the Women’s Missionary Union.She was a homemaker and was crowned Valentine Queen of Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes in 2009. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:00pm in Bethel UMC with Rev. Richard Broom and Mr. Benji McAvoy officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Tucker Hardy, Ben Hardy, Jackson Hardy, Jonathan Orr, Tyler Harris and Jamie Aaron will serve as pallbearers. Survivors include daughters and son in law, Sandra Baynes of Greensboro and Kay and James Poplin of Washington; sons and daughters in law, Darrell and Toni Hardy of Anderson, SC, Len and Joyce Hardy of Washington and Gary and Jessica Hardy of Washington; sister in law, Mrs. Bernice McAvoy of Washington; grandchildren, Robin and Pat Lahr, Eric Harris, Jill Harris, Ryan Hardy, Tucker and Katie Hardy, Jane Ellen Hardy, Benjamin Hardy and Jackson Hardy; great grandchildren, Jonathan Orr, Tyler Harris, Te Harris, Ashlyn Harris, Stuart Harris, Ariana Hardy; step grandchildren, Beth Garland and Jennifer Brown; and great, great grandchild, Logan Orr. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel UMC.
