Laura Stapleton Stewart, 87, entered into rest on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Glen at Lake Oconee following a brief illness. She was born on December 25, 1932, in Washington, Ga., to the late Roy S. Harper and Elizabeth Newsome Harper.In 1950, she married George Davie Stapleton.She retired from Chipman Union and dedicated the rest of her life to her grandkids and great grandkids.She volunteered at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital and Christian Outreach.She loved music and dancing, and later painting.She was a member of the Union Point First United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, George Davie Stapleton,Sr., in 1969.She later married C.J. Stewart in 1999, and he passed away in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her son, Edward Harper Stapleton, and his wife Georgianne, by her grandson, Nicholas, by her great granddaughter, Jolee, and by son-in-law Dan Martin. Mrs. Stewart is survived by one son, George Stapleton (Janet), of Blairsville, Ga.; one daughter, Libby Martin, of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Amanda Bryan, Lauren Phillips, Lindsey (Tracy) Merritt, Blair Stapleton, Brandon (Megan) Stapleton; and six great grandchildren. Graveside services will be Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 2:00pm at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating.The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Cemetery for one hour prior to the graveside service(I:00-2:00pm) on Saturday.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
