Kathryn Poss Shedd

Kathryn Poss Shedd, a beloved member of the Rayle, Georgia community, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on September 7th, 1936, in Washington, Georgia, Kathryn was a cherished daughter of the late Henry and Sallie Mae Poss.

Kathryn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She married the love of her life, Johnny Shedd, in December of 1954, and they shared 62 wonderful years together until his passing. Together, they built a loving family and a life filled with cherished memories.

Kathryn is survived by her children: Johnny Lynn Shedd and wife Debbie of Crawford, GA; Gail Stewart and husband Tim of Rayle, GA; Angie Paul of Crawford, GA; Darryl Shedd of Rayle, GA; and Rodney Shedd and wife Betsy of Rayle, GA. She also leaves behind her sister, Peggy Walker of Rayle, GA, as well as 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Charles Poss, Franklin Poss, Wayne Poss, Calton Poss, and Flora Smith.

Kathryn worked as a seamstress at B&B Manufacturing and Royal Manufacturing before dedicating herself to her family as a full-time homemaker and poultry farmer. She was known for her nurturing spirit and tireless work ethic.

A pillar of strength and grace, Kathryn dedicated many years to serving her church through the Women's Missionary Union, as a devoted Sunday school teacher, and as a spirited leader of the children's youth choir. She was also an avid gardener, finding joy and peace in tending to her plants and flowers. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of County Line Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on March 12, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at County Line Baptist Church, followed by funeral services at 4:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Jim Newsome. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will include Mil Shedd, Matt Shedd, Morgan Shedd, Ricky Shedd, Garrett Paul, Paul Wright, Scott Wills, Alex Ventura, Page Walker and Gage Wright.

Arrangements are being handled by Hopkins Funeral Home. Kathryn's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
