Miss Josephine Andrews Bird passed away November 22, 2011 at Athens Regional Hospital, Athens, Georgia.Miss Bird was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1920, in Crawfordville, Georgia. She graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute in 1938, after which she worked for ASC Soil Conservation Service at the Taliaferro County Court House in Crawfordville. She retired from there after 36 years of faithful service.Almost immediately, she was asked to work as Clerk of County Commissioners, which she did until 1989. Due to holding those two positions most of her life, Miss Bird was widely known and respected by all who came in contact with her.She was often called on by the County, the city and the Historical Society for infomation concerning the history of the City and County, as well as many other things.She had complete recall and knowledge of all that was asked of her.She will be sadly missed in that respect. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Carrie Brake Bird, her sisters Margaret Akins, Kate Leaphart, Laura McLaren, a brother Willie Gus (Bubber) Bird, and one niece Nancy Anderson.She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she called "my children".They are Saralyn and Gary Lutz, and Katie and Ron Taylor of Ironton, Ohio; Joe and Mary Leaphart of Summerville, S.C.; Carolyn and Jeff H'Mara of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; Louise and Al Weldon of Lithonia, Georgia; Robert and Diana Bird of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Larry and Raynell McLaren of Shephardsville, Indiana. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm on Thursday, November 24th at Hopkins Funeral Home.Graveside services will be Friday, November 25th at 11a.m. in Crawfordville Cemetery.
