John William (Johnny) Winfrey

February 2, 1954 — June 10, 2024

Mr. John William (Johnny) Winfrey, 70, of the Lexington Rd. in Rayle, entered into rest Monday morning, June 10, 2024, at the Echols Personal Care Home in Rayle.

Mr. Winfrey was born in Wilkes County and had lived here all of his life. He was the son of the late John Wilson Winfrey and Susie Scoggins Winfrey Brenizer. He was known for his dry sense of humor, and had been a truck driver for a number of years in the logging business, and could run a skidder with the best of them. Johnny was a long time member of the Sardis Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly W. Allred, of Eatonton, and Haley Lane, of Tennessee; two sons, Craig Winfrey, and wife Samantha, of Dallas, TX, and Dusty Winfrey, of Madison; two brothers, Jeff Winfrey, and wife Gwen, of Rayle, and Scott Winfrey, also of Rayle; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Memorial services will be 2:00 Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Newsome officiating. The family will receive friends in the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel immediately following the service on Saturday.

The family would like to thank the Echols Personal Care Home and their Staff for the excellent and  loving care that they provided for Johnny during his stay.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the Cancer Fund of your choice.
